Authorship and Contributorship

1. Policy Statement

Jurnal Ilmu Perilaku (JIP) is committed to promoting transparency, accountability, fairness, and integrity in the recognition of authorship and scholarly contributions.

Authorship provides academic credit and establishes responsibility for the intellectual content, research integrity, and accuracy of published work. All individuals identified as authors must have made genuine scholarly contributions and must accept responsibility for their respective contributions to the research and manuscript.

This policy has been developed with reference to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices and relevant COPE guidance on authorship, contributorship, and authorship disputes.

The journal requires that authorship accurately reflects the contributions of individuals involved in the conception, design, execution, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of research.

All authors must agree on the final authorship arrangement before manuscript submission.

2. Authorship Criteria

To qualify for authorship, an individual must satisfy all of the following criteria:

  1. Make a substantial intellectual contribution to the conception or design of the research, acquisition of research data, analysis, or interpretation of findings.

  2. Participate in drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.

  3. Review and approve the final version of the manuscript before publication.

  4. Agree to be accountable for their contributions and cooperate in resolving questions concerning the accuracy or integrity of the research.

Individuals who do not meet these criteria should not be listed as authors, although their contributions may be recognized in the Acknowledgments section.

Authorship must not be granted solely on the basis of academic position, institutional authority, administrative responsibility, financial support, or general supervision.

All authors share responsibility for ensuring that the manuscript is submitted ethically and that the reported research is presented accurately.

3. Author Contributions

Jurnal Ilmu Perilaku encourages transparent disclosure of individual contributions to scholarly work.

Authors should describe their contributions using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT), where applicable.

Recognized contribution categories include:

  • Conceptualization: Formulation or development of research goals, questions, and ideas.

  • Methodology: Development or design of research methods and procedures.

  • Software: Programming, software development, or implementation of analytical tools.

  • Validation: Verification of research findings, analyses, or experimental procedures.

  • Formal Analysis: Application of statistical, mathematical, computational, or other analytical techniques.

  • Investigation: Conducting research activities, experiments, interviews, observations, or data collection.

  • Resources: Provision of research materials, instruments, participants, or other resources.

  • Data Curation: Management, organization, documentation, and maintenance of research data.

  • Writing – Original Draft: Preparation of the initial manuscript.

  • Writing – Review & Editing: Critical review, revision, and improvement of the manuscript.

  • Visualization: Preparation of figures, tables, diagrams, or other visual representations.

  • Supervision: Scholarly oversight and guidance of the research.

  • Project Administration: Coordination and management of research activities.

  • Funding Acquisition: Acquisition of financial support for the research.

A contribution role does not automatically establish authorship. Individuals must also meet the journal's authorship criteria.

One author may fulfill multiple roles, and multiple authors may share the same role.

The corresponding author should ensure that the contribution statement accurately reflects the participation of all authors.

4. Responsibilities of All Authors

All authors are responsible for maintaining the integrity of their scholarly contributions and complying with the journal's ethical and publication requirements.

Each author must:

  1. Ensure that their contribution is original, accurate, and appropriately documented.

  2. Disclose relevant conflicts of interest and funding sources.

  3. Confirm that the research complies with applicable ethical requirements.

  4. Review and approve the manuscript before submission and publication.

  5. Ensure that research findings are not knowingly fabricated, falsified, or misrepresented.

  6. Provide appropriate citations and acknowledgment of previously published research.

  7. Cooperate with editorial inquiries concerning research integrity.

  8. Notify the journal promptly when significant errors or ethical concerns are identified.

Authors must not submit a manuscript containing contributions attributed to individuals who have not agreed to be identified as authors.

5. Corresponding Author Responsibilities

The corresponding author serves as the primary contact between the author group and the editorial office of Jurnal Ilmu Perilaku.

The corresponding author is responsible for:

  • Coordinating manuscript submission and editorial correspondence.

  • Ensuring that all authors approve the submitted manuscript.

  • Confirming the accuracy of author names, affiliations, and contact information.

  • Obtaining agreement on the author order.

  • Submitting required ethical declarations and supporting documents.

  • Communicating editorial decisions and reviewer comments to all authors.

  • Coordinating revisions and obtaining approval of the revised manuscript.

  • Ensuring that authors approve the final publication version.

  • Responding to reasonable post-publication inquiries.

The designation of a corresponding author does not reduce the responsibilities of other authors.

6. Author Order

The order of authors must be determined through agreement among the authors based on their contributions and relevant disciplinary conventions.

Jurnal Ilmu Perilaku does not impose a universal method for determining author order.

The author group should resolve authorship order before submission and communicate any changes transparently.

Disputes concerning author order should be addressed by the authors and, where necessary, their affiliated institutions.

Editors are not responsible for independently determining the relative scholarly contributions of competing authors.

7. Changes in Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or rearrange authors must be supported by a clear explanation and appropriate documentation.

7.1 Changes Before Publication

Requests for authorship changes after submission must be communicated to the editorial office by the corresponding author.

The request should include:

  1. The manuscript title and identification number.

  2. A description of the proposed change.

  3. The reason for the change.

  4. An updated author contribution statement, where applicable.

  5. Written agreement from all existing and proposed authors, including any author being removed.

The editorial team may suspend manuscript processing while the request is evaluated.

Changes will not be approved when the information provided is insufficient or when unresolved concerns about authorship integrity remain.

7.2 Changes After Publication

Authorship changes after publication will be considered only when supported by appropriate evidence and agreement from all affected authors.

Where justified, the journal may publish a correction to the author list or contribution statement.

A published article will not ordinarily be retracted solely because of an authorship dispute when its research findings and conclusions remain reliable.

If the dispute also raises serious concerns about research integrity, the journal may initiate a separate investigation.

8. Authorship Disputes

Jurnal Ilmu Perilaku recognizes that authorship disputes may arise from disagreements concerning contributions, author order, acknowledgment, or the inclusion or exclusion of individuals.

The journal will handle such disputes with fairness, confidentiality, and reference to relevant COPE guidance.

When a dispute arises:

  1. The editorial team will review the information submitted by the parties.

  2. The authors may be asked to provide contribution statements and supporting documentation.

  3. Manuscript processing may be suspended if the dispute affects the integrity of the submission.

  4. The journal may refer unresolved disputes to the authors' institutions for investigation or mediation.

  5. Editorial processing may resume when the dispute has been appropriately resolved.

The journal does not act as an adjudicator of institutional employment disputes or determine authorship credit without sufficient evidence.

9. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

Jurnal Ilmu Perilaku does not permit authorship arrangements that misrepresent actual scholarly contributions.

9.1 Gift or Honorary Authorship

Gift or honorary authorship occurs when an individual is listed as an author despite not meeting the journal's authorship criteria.

Examples include adding an institutional leader, supervisor, colleague, or other individual solely because of their position or relationship with the research team.

9.2 Ghost Authorship

Ghost authorship occurs when an individual who made a qualifying contribution is omitted from the author list without appropriate justification.

Authors must accurately disclose qualifying contributions, including relevant professional writing or analytical assistance.

9.3 Guest Authorship

Guest authorship occurs when an individual's name is added primarily to increase the perceived credibility or publication prospects of a manuscript without a qualifying contribution.

9.4 Fictitious or Fraudulent Authorship

The journal prohibits the use of fabricated author identities, false institutional affiliations, unauthorized use of another individual's identity, or other forms of authorship misrepresentation.

9.5 Coercive Authorship

Coercive authorship occurs when an individual uses institutional, supervisory, financial, or professional authority to obtain authorship without satisfying the journal's authorship requirements.

Credible allegations of these practices may be investigated under the journal's Allegations of Misconduct Policy.

10. Authorship in Collaborative and Multidisciplinary Research

Psychological and behavioral research frequently involves collaboration among researchers, practitioners, educators, healthcare professionals, statisticians, and other specialists.

All collaborators must be evaluated against the same authorship criteria.

Contributions involving psychological assessment, participant recruitment, clinical observation, data analysis, and research supervision should be documented accurately.

Providing access to research participants, granting institutional permission, or performing routine administrative duties does not automatically qualify an individual for authorship.

Individuals who make substantial scholarly contributions and meet the remaining authorship criteria should receive appropriate authorship recognition.

11. Student and Supervisor Authorship

Jurnal Ilmu Perilaku recognizes the importance of fair authorship practices in research involving undergraduate students, postgraduate students, academic supervisors, and research mentors.

Authorship must reflect actual scholarly contributions rather than academic hierarchy.

Students who meet the journal's authorship criteria must receive appropriate authorship recognition.

Supervisors should not automatically receive authorship solely because they supervise a thesis, dissertation, or research project.

Similarly, students should not automatically receive authorship solely because research is associated with their academic work unless they meet the applicable authorship criteria.

Authorship arrangements should be discussed transparently and agreed upon before manuscript submission.

12. Acknowledgments and Non-Author Contributions

Individuals who contributed to the research but do not meet the authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately.

Examples include:

  • Administrative or technical assistance.

  • General research coordination.

  • Language editing and proofreading.

  • Assistance with participant recruitment.

  • Routine data collection.

  • Provision of research facilities or materials.

  • Financial or logistical support.

Authors should obtain permission from individuals named in the Acknowledgments section.

Acknowledgment must not imply endorsement of the manuscript without the individual's consent.

13. Use of Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Artificial intelligence systems, including generative AI tools, cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for research integrity, approve manuscripts, or fulfill the accountability requirements of human authorship.

Human authors remain fully responsible for all submitted content, including material developed with the assistance of AI tools.

Authors must comply with the journal's Generative AI Policy regarding disclosure, accuracy, originality, confidentiality, and responsible use.

AI-generated references, research data, analytical outputs, or scholarly claims must not be presented without appropriate human verification.

The use of AI tools does not replace the requirement for genuine scholarly contributions by human authors.

14. Author Identification and Institutional Affiliation

Authors must provide accurate names, institutional affiliations, and contact information.

The journal encourages authors to provide an ORCID identifier to support reliable identification and attribution of scholarly contributions.

Institutional affiliations should accurately represent the author's relevant institutional relationship with the research.

False affiliations, misleading credentials, or unauthorized use of institutional identities are prohibited.

15. Post-Publication Accountability

All authors remain responsible for their published contributions after publication.

If significant errors, unreliable findings, or ethical concerns are identified, authors must cooperate with reasonable editorial inquiries and provide relevant documentation when appropriate.

Depending on the nature of the concern, the journal may publish a correction, expression of concern, or retraction in accordance with its post-publication policies and relevant COPE guidance.

Authorship disagreements alone do not justify retraction when the validity and reliability of the published research remain unaffected.

16. Policy Enforcement

Suspected violations of this policy will be assessed in accordance with the journal's Allegations of Misconduct Policy.

Editorial responses will be proportionate to the nature and seriousness of the concern.

Possible actions include requesting clarification, requiring authorship corrections, suspending manuscript processing, rejecting a submission, or referring serious concerns to an appropriate institution.

For published articles, any corrective action will be determined under the journal's applicable post-publication policies.

17. Policy Review

Jurnal Ilmu Perilaku will periodically review this policy to ensure consistency with developments in scholarly publishing, research integrity, authorship standards, and relevant COPE guidance.

Substantive changes will be communicated through the journal website.
